This lichen is sourced mainly from central and southern regions of Europe—including France, Greece, Hungary, and the Balkans—as well as parts of North Africa such as Morocco and Algeria. The extracted material is traditionally processed in regions known for aromatic raw material production.
The resulting absolute is typically dark green to brown with an exceptionally persistent, earthy-mossy aroma accompanied by subtle leather-like nuances. A further refined version obtained through vacuum-distilling the concrete yields a pale yellow to olive, viscous liquid with a dry, bark-like profile that remains true to the character of natural oakmoss.
